Two former Torridge District Council works depots in Bideford and Holsworthy are going up for auction on Wednesday, April 1.

The depot sites are no longer needed since the opening of the council’s new Operational Services Centre at East-the-Water in Bideford earlier this year, which is now home to its waste and recycling and street cleaning teams.

The former Westcombe depot in Bideford was used by the council’s operational services team as offices and storage for vehicles. The site covers just over half an acre and features a large commercial/industrial building that has a range of offices inside, with a ground floor commercial workshop, along with a two-storey detached house.

The online auction is being run by 247 Property Auctions and the Westcombe site has a guide price of £335,000.

The auctioneers say it has potential for redevelopment, including for housing, subject to planning requirements.

The Pipers Yard site at Holsworthy has a guide price of £100,000 and used to provide storage for the council’s vehicle fleet.

It has a good sized yard and a range of light industrial workshops and outbuildings occupying a site of 0.22 acres.

It is suggested it could be used for continued commercial purposes or alternative schemes, subject to obtaining the necessary planning permissions.

In the case of both sites, any interested buyers are advised to seek advice from the planning department at Torridge District Council on any proposed uses of the locations.

Copies of the legal pack and special conditions of sale are available online to be downloaded, via the tab on the online auction listing page. It is the purchaser’s responsibility to make all necessary legal, planning and finance enquiries prior to the auction.
