Pictures: Appledore turns out in force to mark D-Day 80

The communities of Appledore and Northam enjoy a special evening as the beacon is lit to mark the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings

There was great support for the Appledore and Northam D-Day 80 commemoration on Thursday, June 6 as hundreds gathered to mark the occasion 80 years ago when Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy.

The special commemoration event was held on Appledore Quay, organised by Northam Town Council and Appledore Visitors Association.

There was music from Appledore Band together with a barbecue and other refreshments with proceeds to Appledore RNLI.

The was beacon at 9.15pm, at the same time as beacons across the UK and on the beaches in France where surviving veterans and dignitaries had gathered to mark the occasion.
