Dylan Burston and Rhyder Willoughby
Bideford Boxing Club had six boxers competing on three shows at the weekend and some encouraging performances in the ring.
Tremayne Reeves ended the weekend on a high, putting in a strong performance against Jack Thompson in Taunton. Reeves set the pace from the start and proved too good and too fit, dominating three rounds to get the points win.
Dylan Burston, Rhyder Willoughby and Daulton Wright boxed in Southampton against boxers from the host club.
Burston boxed Southern Counties champion David Knowak. For the larger parts of the bout, Burston dominated on the jab, but Knowak had a big burst of work rate towards the end of each round to pinch a tight split decision win.
Rhyder Willoughby returned to the ring after an 18-month break and got a unanimous win against Roy Barnes, demonstrating fast hands and footwork throughout.
Daulton Wright boxed a tidy boxer in Simon Shaw. Wright won from range in the early exchanges but Shaw didn’t let up with a great work rate to take the points win.
Pete Fitzgerald and Egan Ross boxed in Bristol. Fitzgerald was in the England boxing junior championships and had a tough draw meeting England international Liam Tate. Although ultimately losing on points, Fitzgerald will take great pride in winning the second round and showing he belongs at this level.
Heavyweight Egan Ross met Angus Davies from the host club, a bout between two big punchers. In a competitive bout, the more telling shots came from the Bristol boxer to gain the win.
