Water hazards at Boringdon Park
It is cold, wet and windy, pretty much the worst time of year to be playing golf, but spring is not too far away and the lush fairways and greens of Devon are awaiting our return.
To get you in the mood, we are taking on the challenge of building the ultimate golf course, but there are strict rules to this game.
We can only use a golf course once and their chosen hole number must correspond to the actual hole on that course. For example, the ultimate opening hole in Devon must also be the opening hole on that chosen course, and then the same course cannot be used again throughout the round.
Your challenge this summer is to play them all!
The ultimate 13th hole in Devon golf
#13 – Boringdon Park Golf Club – Par 3
The 13th at Boringdon Park’s Saltram course is a standout par-3 famous for its island green design. This means the putting surface is largely surrounded by water, making it visually striking and demanding of precision.
Accuracy off the tee is essential — anything that misses the green risks ending up in the surrounding water hazard, penalising errant shots.
Club selection and wind reading become particularly important here; the exposed setting near water can affect ball flight and distance control. Because it’s relatively long for a par 3, many golfers will need to commit to a mid-to-long iron or hybrid to carry the water and reach the green.
Nestled within the parkland landscape of the course, the 13th also offers scenic panoramic views, typical of Boringdon Park, including glimpses of Dartmoor and surrounding countryside.
This hole is widely regarded as one of the most memorable on the course — a true test of nerve and shot-making on your round at Boringdon Park.
