We have reached the halfway stage in most of the regional football leagues and there are big chances of glory for a number of North Devon’s women’s teams.

In the Sportslighting Devon Women’s League Premier Division, Plympton Ladies are leading the way but Braunton Women are poised to pounce, just two points behind the top side and they will take hope from Plympton suffering their first defeat of the campaign on Sunday, 2-3 at home to SB Oak Villa.

Bideford Women complete the top four and they shared a tense 1-1 draw at their North Devon neighbours earlier this month, Andrea Hatch scoring for Braunton and Lucy Reed with the Bideford reply.

Bradworthy might be the last village in North Devon but their women’s football team, celebrating a tenth anniversary this year, have eyes on the top half of the table, as demonstrated by an excellent 4-1 victory over Oak Villa to start the year, Rebecca Lucas (2), Liberty Kappes and Poppy Bryant scoring the goals.

Bradworthy have a big test at home to Plympton this weekend, while Bideford host Oak Villa and Braunton travel to Tiverton.

Fremington Women are ten points clear at the top of the pile in the North/East Division, having won nine of their opening 11 league games. Fremmy progressed to the quarter-finals of the cup on Sunday, dismantling University of Exeter with a 9-0 victory.

Amelia Reed took the plaudits with a fine hat-trick and there were further goals from Amy Slaney (2), Alison Holland, Hannah Kingdom, Marie Worby and Amelia Boulton.

The club said after the win: “From the first whistle to the last, the team moved the ball brilliantly, supported each other all over the pitch, and showed exactly what great teamwork looks like.

“The goals were a joy to watch – well worked, unselfish, and the result of fantastic build-up play. Everyone played their part, and the togetherness on and off the ball really made the difference.”
