The ultimate fantasy golf course in Devon takes on a scenic par 3 in Torbay

Building the perfect round of golf using only Devon courses and no course more than once

It is cold, wet and windy, pretty much the worst time of year to be playing golf, but spring is not too far away and the lush fairways and greens of Devon are awaiting our return.

To get you in the mood, we are taking on the challenge of building the ultimate golf course, but there are strict rules to this game.

We can only use a golf course once and their chosen hole number must correspond to the actual hole on that course. For example, the ultimate opening hole in Devon must also be the opening hole on that chosen course, and then the same course cannot be used again throughout the round.

Your challenge this summer is to play them all!

The ultimate 8th hole in Devon golf

#8 – Churston Golf Club – Par 3

The 8th at Churston is a short but strategic par-3 that requires accuracy and thoughtful club selection from the tee. From the standard tees, the hole measures around 146 yards for men and around 126 yards for women, making it a mid-iron challenge for most players.

Situated within the parkland layout that skirts the Torbay coastline, this hole sits amidst the undulating fairways and natural Devon terrain that characterise the course, with well-kept greens and subtle contours that can influence approach shots.

Although not long, the green demands precision — putting accuracy on this smaller target is key to avoiding the pressure of a tricky up-and-down for par. The hole’s shorter length can tempt players to be aggressive, but missing the putting surface can quickly turn a seemingly simple hole into a scoring challenge.

With the backdrop of one of Devon’s most scenic golf courses, Hole 8 blends a classic par-3 scoring opportunity with the natural beauty and playability that Churston is known for — making it a memorable part of the round on a course enjoyed year-round thanks to excellent drainage and course conditions.
