North Devon personal trainer Steve Gallienne, of Community Fitness All or Nothing (CFAON), has returned from Florida with an outstanding international result after competing in the DEKA World Championships alongside his partner, Jo Wilkie.

The pair qualified for the highly competitive ELITE 30 mixed pairs division, earning the right to compete against the very best athletes from around the globe. After a demanding race that tested strength, endurance and athletic conditioning, Gallienne and Wilkie secured an impressive 19th-place finish in the world. Notably, they were the only British pairing to qualify for the elite category.

DEKA is a globally recognised fitness race series, attracting athletes from across the world who must first qualify through regional events. Reaching the ELITE 30 at the World Championships represents the pinnacle of the sport, making the duo’s achievement particularly significant—not only for themselves, but also for the local fitness community they represent.

The story also highlights the remarkable dedication of Jo Wilkie. A mum of three, she balances family life, work and an intense training schedule, often completing double training sessions each day in preparation for competition. Her discipline, commitment and performance on the world stage have drawn praise from fellow athletes and supporters alike.

Reflecting on the achievement, Gallienne said the experience was “incredibly meaningful” and a proud moment for everyone connected with Community Fitness All or Nothing, proving that world-class results can be achieved from a local gym with hard work, belief and determination.
