Remembrance Parade in Bideford
The North Devon sporting community joined the whole country in paying tribute to our fallen heroes on Remembrance weekend.
Players, coaches, volunteers and fans stood in silence on pitches and in sports halls all over the region, and one fine example came from Bideford Amateur Rowing Club and Bideford Amateur Athletic Club lining the streets for a Remembrance parade on Sunday.
Further tributes have been paid to a legend of the Bideford Reds, Cyril Lamey, who has sadly passed away at the grand age of 98.
Terry Palmer from the Rowing Club said: “Cyril joined the club at 19 and won both the Novice and Senior Championships. He was a committee member for many years, also representing the club in the Bideford Regatta and WEARA, where he was an umpire.
“Cyril was a Club Trustee and I recently visited him regarding Trustee matters and he was so happy to talk about all things Bideford Reds. RIP you true legend.”
Over at the Athletics Club, four youngsters enjoyed an amazing experience at the Cardiff Cross Challenge. Dante Nusser delivered a stunning performance to finish third in the boys’ U11 race. There were also top runs from his brother Joe, and Carys Woodhead in the girls U15s and Finley Cloak in the men’s U20 race.
