Bideford Boxing Club’s Aaron Bird will compete for the Light Heavyweight IBO European Title and Silver Commonwealth Title against hometown fighter Kyle Davies in Stoke on November 8.

The show is billed as ‘Collision Course’ with the two unbeaten fighters go head to head, Bird unbeaten in 7 fights and Davies unbeaten in 11.

Bird spoke before his big fight: “Training has gone amazing, I am very fit, I have sparred very well and I am confident of coming home with the belts. Once again, thanks to all my team and supporters, this wouldn’t be possible without you. We all know what I’m capable of, now it’s time for me too show the boxing world and announce myself on the big stage.”

Rocky Grigg boxed in Dursley in the NAGBC Championship’s, Western Counties Champions versus Home Counties Champions. Grigg was taking on a vastly more experienced opponent, Jackson Myers, who had had twice as many bouts as Grigg and more wins that Grigg had bouts.

Grigg pressured his taller opponent, working his way in with counter punches, but Myers tied him up on the inside though to nullify his attacks in a tight round. In the second, Myers used check hooks to stay out of range to take the round.

In the last, Grigg kept up the non-stop pressure, slowing Myers down with big body shots in a dominant round. It was close at the final bell and a tight split decision went to Myers. Grigg has shown what a great prospect he is for the future though, going 15 bouts unbeaten and winning several titles in a short space of time.

Bideford also had three boxers making their debuts with skills contests in Camborne against boxers from the host club. James Birch, Boston Barrel and Charlie Spare represented Bideford. Although no winner or losers are declared in skills contest, all the boxers impressed and are ready for competitive bouts in the near future.
