North Devon Ladies 2nds
North Devon Hockey Club Ladies’ 2nds produced their finest performance of the season, storming to a 6–0 victory over local rivals Tiverton at Blundell’s School.
The newly re-laid pitch proved lively and unpredictable, making life tricky for both sides. But North Devon adapted superbly, showing composure and control throughout.
Led confidently by captain Sally Poll, North Devon dominated possession in a fiercely contested first half and soon broke the deadlock with a stunning strike from Poppy Milan, her first goal for the club and a fitting reward for her excellent early-season form.
Tiverton, as always, proved spirited opponents. Their youthful pace and quick counter-attacks kept the North Devon defence alert, but the backline and goalkeeper stood firm with some outstanding defending.
North Devon’s structure and discipline paid dividends as they worked the ball down the flanks, stretching Tiverton’s shape. The words shared at half-time clearly hit home, as the visitors returned to the pitch brimming with confidence and purpose.
The second half saw a masterclass in flowing team hockey, with the midfield, defensive and forward lines linking beautifully from back to front.
North Devon doubled their lead soon after the restart, before Poll added two superb goals of her own: the first a precision strike from a penalty corner; the second a fierce reverse hit after a slick attacking move.
Beccy Addison marked her return to the side with two well-taken goals that sealed a memorable 6–0 triumph and kept North Devon hot on the heels of the league leaders.
