Kaidan Symons and Billy Stanbury
Bideford Boxing Club professional boxers Billy Stanbury and Kaidan Symons have a fight date scheduled for November 22 in Swindon.
Stanbury, now 12 fights undefeated, will be back in the South West for the first time since winning the Southern Area title in June.
Symons, who had a successful amateur career in Falmouth, will be making his pro debut on Stanbury's undercard. Both boxers are hard in training and already benefitting each other as sparring partners.
“I am chuffed to be back boxing locally again, I had great support when I won the title in London, but I’m proud of my roots and it’s great to be bringing bigger shows back to the South West and seeing more local fighters coming through behind me,” said Stanbury.
“I will be staying busy in a six-round contest before more big title fights next year. I believe the Southern Area is just the first of many titles for me in the pro ranks. For anyone interested in tickets or sponsorship opportunities for my fight, please call me on 07397 007456.”
Dylan Burston successfully defended his Western Counties Belt in Taunton, beating Omar Hussain from Bodysnatchers with a second round TKO.
Burston was countering the taller opponent, when a well-timed overhand right landed and wobbled Hussain, forcing a standing count in the first round. Burston continued his onslaught in the second round, landing big punches before a right cross sent Hussain crashing to the canvas.
Hussain got to his feet but was still unsteady, Burston followed up with a big left hook forcing the referee to step in and stop the fight. Burston is in good form approaching the NAGBC Championships.
Leo McMenamin had a rematch with Zack Collett from Western Warriors, who he had previously lost too. McMenamin was eager to avenge his loss and started at a high tempo, trapping Collet on the ropes with flurries of punches.
As the pace settled down in the second, McMenamin picked clean southpaw left hands to dominate. The Bideford schoolboy carried momentum into the third round, showing a great skill set and proving a level above to get a deserved points win.
