Bovey Tracey leading the race
The first month of the South West Peninsula League season has yielded a huge contrast in fortunes for the two premier clubs on Dartmoor.
Bovey Tracey are sitting pretty at the top of the division, extending their unbeaten start to the campaign with a 7-0 walloping of bottom club Axminster Town. Ollie Aplin bagged a hat-trick for Bovey, alongside doubles for Levi Landricombe and Owen Stockton.
Head across the Moors and the mood is a lot gloomier, as Okehampton Argyle look to pick themselves up from a 7-0 defeat at second-placed Bridport. It has been a strange start for the Okes, who are third from bottom and badly need a reset to get their campaign on track.
Newton Abbot Spurs are third in the table following a 4-2 triumph at Middlezoy Rovers, where Toby Pullman slotted a fine hat-trick and Owen Green added gloss to the victory.
Two sides to watch out for in the chasing pack are Ilfracombe Town and Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police. They shared a 1-1 draw in North Devon on Saturday but both have the quality to surge up the table.
The focus this weekend switches to the FA Vase for most Peninsula clubs.
