Testicular cancer charity continues partnership with newly merged Barnstaple-based club North Devon Hockey Club (NDHC) launched their new team kit on Saturday, made possible through continued sponsorship from It’s in the Bag Cancer Support, the South West’s only dedicated testicular cancer charity.

The kit launch marks a significant milestone for NDHC, which was formed last year following the merger of North Devon Men’s Hockey Club and Taw Valley Hockey Club. The partnership with It’s in the Bag dates back to 2017, when the charity first supported the Men’s Hockey Club.

The new kit, featuring fresh colours and designs by Paignton-based VX3, reflects both the team’s identity and the charity’s mission to raise awareness about testicular cancer – the most common cancer affecting men aged 15-49.

“How brilliant for the club to be supported again by the charity, and wonderful to see the new colours and designs,” said Sue Brand, It’s in the Bag’s founder and Chief Operating Officer, who attended Saturday’s launch.

“NDHC have been raising awareness of testicular cancer for many years and long may it continue, because awareness saves lives.”

NDHC Chairman Ash Thorne expressed gratitude for the charity’s support during the club’s transition period: He said: “We are so grateful for the continued support from It’s in the Bag, especially when this was a big ask from the newly formed NDHC. The kits look great and really do reflect the team and the charity, with the aim of raising awareness too.”

The partnership extends beyond kit sponsorship, with NDHC actively supporting the charity through bucket collections at Exeter Chiefs and other fundraising initiatives.

Key Facts About Testicular Cancer:

  • Most common cancer in men aged 15-49 (though it can affect younger and older men)
  • Over 96% survival rate when detected early
  • Monthly self-checking recommended for men aged 15 and older
  • Early detection is crucial for successful treatment

It’s in the Bag is doing incredible work as the South West’s only dedicated testicular cancer charity, supporting men from Cornwall all the way to Worcestershire. They’ve been particularly focused on Somerset and Devon over the past couple of years, and the results have been fantastic!

So here’s to NDHC in their smart new kit, to It’s in the Bag for their ongoing support, and to a partnership that’s truly making a difference in the community. Whether you’re a hockey fan or just someone who believes in supporting great causes, this is definitely something to cheer about!
