Young Bideford boxer Rocky Grigg is the new Ringside Box Cup Champion after two relentless displays of boxing over the weekend.
The highly regarded Box Cup was held in Bognor Regis and featured boxers from all over England.
In the semi-finals, Grigg boxed Alex Tskvil from Eastbourne ABC. Grigg went straight to work with combinations to the head and body, a left hook switched from body to head rocked Tskvil, forcing a standing count.
Sensing the finish, Grigg went up another gear in the second, landing big shots to force another standing count and getting a technical knockout win.
In the final, Grigg met his most experienced opponent to date in the shape of England representative Matty Mia from Gateway ABC.
Grigg again went about his work with an educated approach, feinting and jabbing his way into range. After a few stiff right crosses, Mia began to feel the power and was clinging on, forcing the referee to deduct points for holding.
Grigg shortened his work up in the second, landing big uppercuts and hooks. Mia was struggling with the pace and was trying to spoil at every opportunity, prompting the referee to deduct another point for holding.
Grigg had no respect for Mia’s power in the last, walking through everything that came his way and replied with bigger shots in his determination to get the win. Grigg earned the points win and the Ringside Belt to add to his accolades of Riviera Box Cup Champion and England Boxing Development Champion this season.
