Barnstaple Town too strong for Buckland Athletic
An incredible 13th clean sheet of the Western League season helped Barnstaple Town make a strong stride forward in securing a place in the play-offs.
Buckland Athletic are another side contending for a top-five finish behind runaway leaders Portishead and Clevedon, but the Bucks had no answer to another stingy Barum display, led by the goalkeeping exploits of Jim Weeks.
Both teams spurned chances in the first half but Barum found the answer to unlock Buckland’s defence after the break, captain Brodie Montague heading home from a Ricky Marinaro free-kick. Victory was confirmed when Billy Hopcroft added the finishing touch to a delicious Tommy Rogers pass.
Barnstaple travel to Nailsea & Twickenham this weekend, when struggling Ilfracombe Town will attempt to revive their campaign at Street. The Bluebirds remain entrenched in the bottom three after going down to a 3-1 defeat at home to Paulton Rovers.
