West Buckland Squash Marathon
West Buckland student embarks on a 24-hour epic
After the cancellation of the West Buckland Squash marathon in December 2024, student and organiser Ben Willmott finally got the event rescheduled for February 7.
In total, 15 people took on the ambitious challenge of continual squash for 24 hours, where they split the duration into one-hour slots. This meant different players rotated on and off the court.
Ben said: “We completed the challenge and although at times it was very tough, in the back of our minds were the people at our partner school in Kenya, Agoro Oyombe who we were doing this for.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff involved in supervising the event and for the support of the WBS community in taking on this challenge. We have raised a total of £1424, which will be transformational to Agoro Oyombe and will be put towards funding new bunk beds for the boarding houses.
“These beds will be ready in May 2025 and will contribute towards further academic successes within the school. One girl, who boarded last year, was the only girl in the school to secure a place at university.
“If you would like to donate to help us raise even more, please visit the GoFundMe website and search for West Buckland School Squash Marathon.”
