Big win for High Bickington

Amazing individual display in the North Devon Football League

On a weekend of limited action in the North Devon Football League, the goalscoring headlines were reserved for Owen Avery from High Bickington FC, as he struck a superb double-hat-trick in helping his side to a 0-8 victory at lowly Northam Lions.

The heroics of Avery meant just a second win in the Senior Division for High Bickington, who jumped above Lynton in the table. A double from Carter Ward inflicted a 2-0 defeat for Lynton at Boca Seniors 2nds.

Woolsery won 1-2 at AFC Dumnonii 2nds to move level on points with leaders Braunton 2nds and the other game played in this division saw Combe Martin trounce South Molton 0-5. Just one fixture survived the weather in the Premier Division, Braunton winning 1-5 at Hartland.

Congratulations also to Bradworthy, who progressed in the County Cup with a 1-4 success at Heavitree United 2nds.

Appledore enjoyed an excellent 1-0 victory at home to high-flying Plymouth Marjon in the Devon Football League, a result that leaves the North Devon club just five points behind Exeter University in second, although leaders Alphington are 13 points clear at the top.

There was no game for North Molton, who travel to Thorverton this weekend, while Appledore are on the road to Bere Alston United.

In the South-West Peninsula League, Torrington fought bravely before going down to a 2-4 home defeat against high-flying Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police.

On a difficult pitch, Torrington grabbed a scruffy opener but were quickly pegged back by the visitors racing into a 2-1 lead. The Super Greens did manage to pull level at the break but Stoke just proved too strong after the interval. Torridgeside had a weekend off but travel to Middlezoy Rovers on Saturday.
