Kyra McDonald
Silver success for North Devon judo star
Kyra McDonald, a 13 year-old judoka from Kingsley School Judo Club, competed in the British National Championships in the pre-cadet age category.
This event is the highest-level competition in the country and serves as the flagship event of the year, attracting the top players from across the nation.
Kyra has been training hard for the past couple of months in preparation for this competition, and her dedication paid off as she advanced to the final in her age and weight category. The final was a closely contested match, but Kyra ultimately earned a silver medal, marking an incredible achievement as she became the British national silver medallist. This finish is even higher than last year when she secured a bronze medal.
This year has been exceptional for Kyra, as she has earned a total of five national medals: Silver in the British National Championships, Silver in the Welsh National Open Championships, Silver in the English Open Championships, Silver in the BJC National Open Championships and Bronze in the English Closed Championships.
Throughout the year, Kyra participated in 19 competition events across the country, completing 58 individual contests. She won 35 of those matches and lost 23, resulting in five gold medals, 10 silver medals, and three bronze medals.
This remarkable achievement sets a strong foundation for her continued development in 2025.
