Torridgeside fight back to defeat Liskeard Athletic

Torridgeside AFC delivered a remarkable comeback to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Peninsula League Cup, defeating a powerful Liskeard Athletic on a day of drama in North Devon.

The Cornish visitors controlled the first period and deservedly led 2-0 at the break with goals from Max Gilbert and Cam Paterson, but the half-time team-talk clearly had an immense impact on Torridgeside.

Josh Parsons pulled a goal back for the T-Siders and then George Shapland provided the perfect assist for Kyle Paine to equalise. There was still time for one final twist and Shapland delivered with the winning goal to book a February trip to Penzance in the last eight.

Torridgeside travel to Bovey Tracey on Saturday and Torrington visit Elburton Villa before the two sides reconvene for a Boxing Day derby in Torrington.

Dean Hutchings and Gavin Carter scored the goals to give Holsworthy an important 2-1 victory over St Day in the West Division, three points that move the Magpies into the top ten.

Most importantly, the result ended a painful winless run stretching back to early September and sets up Holsworthy for a Boxing Day home clash with Bude Town.
