North Devon boxers gain plaudits across the region

Bideford boxer Dre Beer shone on his debut in Cheltenham, winning the ‘best bout of the night award’ in a senior contest with Ezra Knight.

It was a hard first round for Beer against a strong and aggressive opponent. In the second, Beer began trading with Knight, pushing him back and wobbling him to force a standing count in a dominant round for the Bideford boxer.

It was all down to the last round, both tried to dominate on the front foot, meaning they met in the middle and let the combinations go, both having success. Knight’s fitness shone through to get the win, but Beer earned his standing ovation from the crowd and showed plenty of promise for the future.

Coby Allcorn picked up a unanimous win in Plymouth against Archie Killone from the host club. Allcorn boxed behind a strong jab and accurate right crosses to win the first round.

In the second, Allcorn went up another level, forcing a standing count on Killone with a four-punch combination. Killone made it to the final bell but Allcorn dominated throughout in his best performance to date.

David Quinn was awarded the ‘fight of the night in his bout against Tom Lowe from the host club. Quinn started strong on the front foot landing big shots.

In the second, the pace lowered and Lowe worked his way back into the contest with counter punches. In the last, both lads met in the middle and exchanged with combinations from the start to finish. Lowe picked up the split decision win.
