Volleyball success for Petroc
Petroc College thriving on the volleyball court
Petroc College men's and mixed volleyball teams travelled to Birmingham to play cup matches against King Edward VI College and after a four-hour journey, they were straight into it with the men's fixture.
Petroc started sluggishly with the journey still in their legs but they played some good stuff and came back into the first set towards the end, winning it 25-22.
This formed a pattern with the games being very close and King Edward leading at the 20-point stage, only for Petroc to come back and take the win, the second set was 29-27 and the third was 28-26, showing how close it was.
Excellent leadership from Captain Billy Taylor and good work from experienced outside players, Phoenix Woodley and Jonah Upward, backed up by some good play from libero, Evan Bayliss and younger players, Ashton Pullen and Anotida Masendeke, saw them safely into the quarter finals of the National Cup!
Then, after a 10-minute break it was straight into the mixed game, Billy, Phoenix and Jonah, this time joined by our women, Edie Steiner, Martha Poll, Ffion Edwards and Erin Cox. King Edward with their best 4 men and some really good women players.
Again, the games were extremely close and Petroc managed to hold things together, winning the sets 25-23, 25-22 and 26-24, coming back from 23-18 in the last set. A really good performance! They will now wait for the quarter-final draw with some excitement!
Petroc Football hosted Exeter 2nds and another hard-fought game with some good performances but Exeter took a 7-3 win, the lads are still fighting for that first win!
Petroc basketball also hosted Exeter and a very close game with the visitors just pushing through at the end to take a 55-46 win. Like the footballers, the basketball team are working hard to get that first win!
