Bideford boxer narrowly beaten in world title bout
Bideford boxer Conor McIntosh travelled to the Cayman Islands to Challenge for the World Title against India’s Mandeep Jangra. After 12 gruelling rounds of boxing, Mcintosh just came up short on the judge’s scorecards.
Mcintosh said: “Not the result I was hoping for the other night but I gave it my absolute all in a gruelling fight, travelling half way across the world as a huge underdog.
“I’ve never taken easy fights from day dot and boxing at a level that I’ve never boxed at before and holding my own fills me with pride regardless of the result.
“Only three years ago, I never thought I’d even walk into a boxing gym again, let alone fight for a world title and boxing in front of my childhood hero Roy Jones Jr is one ticked off the bucket list for sure.
“Thank you to @fightzone.uk for giving me the opportunity and thank you to everybody for the kind messages and support throughout it all. It means the world and I will be back.”
Trainer Richard Grigg spoke about his fighter “What a journey it’s been so far, from the amateur days in Port Talbot and Bideford, Pro Debut in Plymouth, Welsh Title in Cardiff to topping the bill in the Cayman Islands for the World Title, take a bow Conor Mcintosh. Not the result we wanted, but we know we came here as a huge underdog and dared to be great.
“Conor’s stock has definitely risen, just missing out on points in a tight fight at World level and he will come again.
“One thing that sticks with me is having the conversation with Conor when we turned him pro, ‘you can win at least a Welsh Title’. He has achieved that and challenged for a World Title, but more than his boxing achievements, I’m proud to see the man he has become.
“Conor Mcintosh: a great dad, a great boxer and all-round good guy.”
