Great start to the season for College netball squad

Petroc Netball faced Bridgwater College on October 16 at home in the Association of Colleges (AoC) cup competition. Both teams have had great starts to the season with two wins from two in the league, so this was expected to be a thriller!

Petroc started the game strongly, flying into a 15-5 lead in the first quarter, the domination of the game clearly reflecting their hard work and training efforts. This cushion really settled the team down and they managed to maintain a good lead throughout the game.

It was an impressive display against a strong side with Petroc going into the last quarter with a 30-point advantage, Bridgwater did come back into the game but Petroc still ran out winners by 52-26 and move into the third round draw.

The opposition player of the match went to Tilly Hill, with the Petroc team voting joint players of the match to the solid defensive unit of Kiah Blair, Teah Husband and Tilly Hill.

A fantastic start to the season for Petroc Netball!

The week before, Petroc Netball hosted Yeovil College and coaches Cheryl Little and Sally King reported that all the girls gave 100% and showed great versatility across the squad with everyone getting court time.

Petroc had three students who made their debuts: Pascha Goddard, Brooke Maynard and Hannah Dowle, all of whom gave a very good account of themselves.

Petroc went into a good lead in the first quarter with some excellent work through the centre of the court and this carried on through the match. Goal Shooter Connie Shaddick had a particularly good day and very rarely missed a shot. By the end, Petroc had run out convincing winners 57-40.

Player of the match was a split decision with Petroc's players giving it to Connis and Yeovil's players voting Kiah Blair.

A tough week for Petroc basketball, travelling to City College Plymouth who are now in partnership with Plymouth Raiders with Raiders academy running through the College. After a long journey, the game proved to be a really tough one and Petroc were on the wrong end of a 25 - 90 scoreline.

Next week, the basketball team face a tough trip to Plymouth Patriots academy, while the volleyball squad are scheduled to have a mixed volleyball cup match against Richard Huish.

Elsewhere, regional tournaments start with a cohort of badminton players going to Taunton to compete for the South West title.
