North Devon sides progress in Devon Senior Cup
Devon County Cup fixtures took centre stage in grassroots football on the weekend and Braunton 2nds delivered a 9-0 demolition to visiting Paignton Saints 2nds.
Braunton already boast an incredible 100% record from their opening eight fixtures in the Senior Division of the North Devon League, and Paignton had no answer to that relentless form at a sunny Camp Lobb.
The fun started with Cam Osborne using his pace to get the wrong side of the Paignton defence before slotting a calm low finish beyond the advancing goalkeeper.
Logan Warren scored his first of a profitable afternoon, racing into the left channel and rolling a lovely finish into the corner. Next on the list was Dylan Evans, and another excellent finish, side-footing into the bottom corner from 15 yards.
Warren’s second was a clever flick past the beleaguered Paignton custodian and four soon became five with a confident penalty from Evans.
Jake Arrowsmith continued the pattern after the break, thumping a lovely strike into the roof of the net before Kieron Goswell made his introductions to the score sheet with a fabulous goal from wide on the right, spearing the ball into the opposite top corner.
Warren completed his hat-trick with another sweet strike curled into corner and a dominant day was rounded off by Goswell sliding number nine beyond a Paignton goalkeeper who had little chance with any of the goals.
Also in the Devon Senior Cup, Boca Seniors 2nds waltzed to a 3-0 win at home to Teignmouth 2nds, Combe Martin won 2-1 at Halwill but Bideford 2nds were overpowered in a 7-0 loss to Buckland Athletic 2nds.
Fremington 2nds and AFC Dumnonii 2nds both suffered heavy defeats in East Devon but there was better news for South Molton, who beat St Martins 2nds 3-1.
