Petroc netball team
College sporting season is back underway
Petroc College netball team opened their new season with an excellent 38-27 victory at home to South Gloucestershire and Stroud (SGS) College.
The game started very evenly with the Petroc girls absorbing a lot of pressure before getting a foothold in the game. Excellent court linkage gave them a 10-5 lead after the first quarter.
The second and third quarters went the same way with the girls putting some of the practiced set-pieces into action, which worked well and they ran out quite comfortable winners 38-27 in the end. All the girls managed to get onto the court and Kiah Blair was voted player of the match.
After promotion to the College Premier League, Petroc men’s football team always knew this season was going to be a massive challenge, as it is the first time in the history of Petroc they are playing in the top tier.
True to expectations, the first three games have been very tough but the team is staying together as a unit and working hard to achieve that first win.
The Petroc basketball season is also underway, starting with a cup game away at Exeter, against their first team, which is stacked with players who are in decent league teams. While the game ended in defeat, Petroc coach Charlie and the opposition coaches were impressed with what they saw and this bodes well for the rest of the season!
The mixed volleyball team travelled to Taunton for their first fixture in the newly formed South West League against Richard Huish College. A very closely contested match played out with sets only being won by a few points. Petroc ended up going down three sets to one but, on another day with more available players, the Petroc team felt they could have nicked it.
