Stanbury ready for 10th professional fight
Bideford boxer Billy Stanbury approaches his 10th Professional fight in Swindon on Saturday, September 7, when he takes on Adam Ciaslek from Poland who is ranked inside the top 10 in his country.
Stanbury has been chief sparring partner for Lloyd Germaine throughout his training camp, who challenges for the Commonwealth Title on the same night. Germaine is the current Welsh and Celtic Champion and is trained by World Champion Lee Selby.
Stanbury has been making the trip to Barry Island each week and Germaine returning to Bideford, sparring up to 10 rounds a time.
Stanbury spoke about the experience and his next fight, he said: “Being around great fighters really motivates me, I grew up watching Lee Selby on TV wining World Titles in America, to have him giving me advice and singing my praises has given me lots of confidence.
“Lloyd Germaine and I have been great for each other, he’s one of Britain’s top boxers and I’m more than holding my own, I’m just waiting for my opportunity to show I belong at this level myself.
“I am making all the same sacrifices as these top fighters, putting in the hours training and travelling all around the UK, sparring the best boxers and I’m sure it will all pay off on fight night.
“All the hard work is done now and I can now look forward to the night, I want to thank all my sponsors and supporters who have helped me get this far, I’m looking to put in an explosive performance and pick up another win.”
