Scorching Sunday for Pilot Gig event

On an unusually hot summer Sunday, Torridge Pilot Gig Club hosted their annual Regatta.

Bristol, Barnstaple, Ilfracombe and Appledore, along with hosts Torridge, battled it out on the Estuary at Appledore, and the races were A, B, Vets, Supervets and a mixed open group.

The overall winners on the day were Appledore. Bristol, Ilfracombe and Barnstaple all took trophies home. Angie Whitaker from Torridge said: “We may not have won a trophy, though it was a close call, we still had the most fantastic day, racing, sea shanties, PA provided by Over and Above charity, the rowers and public enjoyed it all.
