Care for Kids 10k
North Devon race raising important funds
Summer showers could not hold back some exceptional times in the Care for Kids North Devon's Barnstaple 10km race, with 219 runners stepping out into the summer showers to complete the charity run.
The event is estimated to have raised £7,000 for Care for Kids, which provides financial support to the families of children with life threatening illnesses and carries out projects at the NDDH children’s ward.
Dean Wickett was the first to cross the finish line, in a time of 36:23. Jack Hastings took second place at 36:47 and David Nutt was the third fastest, with a time of 36:50.
The fastest female was Samantha Baker, who finished in 39:38. Joanne Page took second place at 41:06 and Helen Harbottle was the third fastest, with a time of 41:33.
Congratulations to Team Fearnley Lott Architects, who took home the trophy for fastest team at this year’s Barnstaple 10K. Thanks to all the teams for their efforts, including North Devon Council, Torridge District Council, dryrobe, Tanglewood Trio, Brewer Harding & Rowe, NFU Mutual, Leo Workwear and Team Sharman.
Thanks also to all the event sponsors: Brewer Harding & Rowe, Advanced Pallet Systems, TT Electronics, Leo Workwear, TDK Lambda and Saltrock. A special mention to Atlas Packaging for supplying amazing cardboard trophies again for the winners, to dryrobe for loaning its race arch and to Hopps at The Voice for keeping all the runners and supporters entertained on the day.
Charity Manager Jacky Massos said: "Our runners didn’t let the rain stop them on Sunday - everyone threw themselves into the race with as much enthusiasm as usual and the sun did come out eventually! Thanks to everyone who made our event possible - the volunteers, sponsors and, of course, all the runners and their supporters. All the money raised will make a massive difference to our small charity and the local families we support."
Tim Watson from Brewer, Harding & Rowe added: “Another year, another great event! We feel really privileged to have, once again, been given the opportunity to be headline sponsors of the Care for Kids 10K, a remarkable charity dedicated to supporting families of children diagnosed with a life-threatening condition. The run was a tremendous event, raising funds for a great cause. We are proud to have played our part and look forward to supporting again next year.”
