Simon Mugglestone at Manchester Half Marathon
Victory for joyous Simon Mugglestone
Bideford Amateur Athletic Club (Bideford AAC) has commended the outstanding performance of their runner, Simon Mugglestone, at the Manchester Half Marathon.
Representing England Masters, Mugglestone secured an impressive victory by finishing 1st in the V55 category and 36th overall, clocking an impressive time of 74.41.
Mugglestone’s journey to this remarkable achievement is equally inspiring. A former 1987 Euro U20 5000m champion, he faced adversity when an injury forced him to step away from running.
After a 30-year hiatus, Mugglestone made a triumphant return, consistently achieving exceptional results in his age category.
Earlier this month, Simon joined other Bideford AAC runners in representing England at the Birmingham 10K.
The team’s stellar performance included John Shapland, who secured 2nd place in the V70 category with a time of 41:53, and Lorraine Clements, who finished 5th in the V60 category with a time of 46:03. Martin Colwill (16th V55, 37:45) and Helen Colwill (17th V50, 49:04) also contributed to England’s success.
Gemma Steele, Bideford AAC Harriers’ Chairman, expressed immense pride in the club’s achievements. “Having five England runners from our small club in North Devon is a testament to their dedication and talent. Not only are they phenomenal athletes, but they also exemplify the spirit of camaraderie by supporting and advising their fellow club runners.”
Bideford AAC offers competitive and social running opportunities for individuals aged 9 and above. Training sessions cater to advanced and intermediate runners, as well as those seeking a friendly club environment.
