North Devon Disc Golf
An emerging sport in the North Devon countryside
North Devon is welcoming the arrival of Disc Golf with the opening of a new course on South Worden Farm, Bradworthy - EX22 7TW.
Disc Golf is the fastest growing sport globally - in Great Britain it has tripled its popularity since Covid. It has recently been accepted as a competitive event for The World Games in Chengdu, China in 2025.
It is a simple game that requires skill and practice like all sports. You throw your frisbee (a specialised Disc Golf one) from a tee to a basket. The player with the least throws wins the 'hole' - and after 12 holes played at SWF you have played a round! And you can hire or buy your frisbees at The Hive when you arrive.
Charlie Mead is a World, European and British Disc Golf Champion. He has been competing and designing Disc Golf courses across the world for over 40 years. In 2013, he and partner Maggi moved to Bradworthy - and 11 years later opened The Hive Cafe and the South Worden Farm Disc Golf Course.
Charlie Mead was elected to the World Disc Golf Hall of Fame in 2023. He has held World titles and holds six European Disc Golf Championship titles, along with his 11 British titles. He has represented Great Britain consistently at all levels for the last 45 years and is currently Chair of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) Disc Golf Committee.
The course is open to all. It is a great place for groups to meet and try something new. Whether you are a business, a school, a club or a family you can get expert tuition from Charlie and enjoy playing in the middle of the Devon countryside. It is a sport open to all ages and abilities - boys and girls, men and women and enjoyed by many worldwide.
The important bit - the cost - It is only £5 to play a round of 12 holes; £3 for children under 14 - which takes beginners about 90 minutes.
