Contracts have been signed and the big fight is agreed, Bideford boxer Aaron Bird challenges Bobby Morrell for the Celtic Title on June 28 in Glasgow.

Manager Richard Grigg spoke about Aaron and the fight in hand. “Just over a year ago, Aaron and Port Talbot Bulldogs (Aaron’s amateur club) put their trust in me to guide Aaron’s career.

“It was a real honour for me to take on someone with such amateur pedigree, achieving five Welsh Titles, three British titles and a bronze medal at the World championships.

“At the same time, we knew it wasn’t going to be easy with no TV deal for him or big financial backing for him. We set a plan to build up on the small hall shows in Wales and challenge for the Welsh title within the first year.

“A year on, he is 4-0, we had a Welsh Title fight lined up with Jake Anthony but unfortunately he has since retired and we couldn’t find anyone else willing to fight for the title.

“Instead, we have gone for the Celtic Title and what a fight we have for it. We travel to Scotland to fight undefeated Scottish Champion Bobby Morrell, who is ranked 20th in Britain. I believe Aaron wins the Title, which will catapult him up the rankings, moving on towards a British title.

“Aaron is now hard in training camp and will leave no stone unturned as he puts the hours in the gym and hours on the road. travelling around the country getting the best sparring in order to be able to perform on the night and bring the title home.”
