Megan Woods
Megan Woods flying the flag for North Devon
A resounding North Devon applause for Megan Woods, who displayed exceptional boxing prowess at the Blue Flames all-female show in Taunton.
Megan-Dee Woods is a boxer from the Barum Boxing Club on Mill Street in Barnstaple and a Year 12 student at Pilton Community College. She is the current English Schools champion and all set for a fantastic career in the ring.
Despite facing adversity at the Taunton show, Megan’s resilience shone through as she countered her opponent’s attacks with precision and determination.
Starting strong in the first round, Megan showcased a strategic mix of shots that left her opponent wobbling, earning a count from the referee. The Barum boxer adjusted her approach in the second, and moved with agility, landing effective shots and forcing another count.
Megan’s unwavering commitment to training and fitness proved pivotal, demonstrating that strength goes beyond the physical realm. In the third round, she delivered powerful blows that not only secured victory but also sent a powerful message.
Kudos to Megan from the entire club for her hard work and triumph. Let’s rally behind her as she gears up for the Golden Girl competition in Sweden at the end of the month.
Elsewhere in local boxing, three Bideford schoolboys featured on the Cwmgoors show in Wales. Pete Fitzgerald had a rematch with Colton Hill from Premmiere ABC, who he lost to last time out in a dubious decision.
This time, Fitzgerald didn’t need the judges, as he put the pressure on Hill from the opening bell with fast straight punches to force a technical knockout within the first minute of the fight.
Riley Chappell had a stiff test against Morgan Jeff from Prizefighter. The action was toe-to-toe from first bell until the last but it was Chappell who proved rougher and tougher to finish stronger and get the split decision win.
Leo McMenamin had a rematch with Joe Smith from Pontyclun, who he beat last time out. McMenamin won the first round with classy combinations. He was also in control in the second until he walked on to a right cross and received a standing count, which changed the course of the fight. Smith gained confidence and momentum to finish well and get the points win.
