Billy Stanbury and Aaron Bird preparing for next bouts

Bideford professionals Billy Stanbury and Aaron Bird are both hard in training camp for upcoming fights, as the boxing world prepares for a stellar season in 2024.

Billy Stanbury returns to York Hall, Bethnal Green on March 9, where he is building a name for himself, having boxed there three times previously. Stanbury will feature in a six-round contest on the undercard of Commonwealth, English and Southern Area title fights.

An opponent is yet to be confirmed but Stanbury will look to continue stepping up in opposition, having won all eight fights so far in the pro ranks and closing in on titles.

Aaron Bird returns to Brangwyn Hall, Swansea on February 17 against James Mcarthy from Liverpool. Mcarthy has mixed at a high level, last year boxing British and Commonwealth Champion Sam Eggington. Bird is currently three fights undefeated, and another win will put him in line to challenge for the Welsh title.

Professional Trainer/Manager Richard Grigg spoke about his prospects: “These two lads are knocking on the doors now for big opportunities, all they need to do is keep winning. They both have great amateur careers and have both adapted well to the pro game.

“For Stanbury, it’s a longer route, as Super Welterweight is a popular weight and the Southern Area is a huge area. But he hasn’t put a foot wrong so far in his career and has a lot of people with a close eye on him. I’m unsure what will come first, a TV deal or a Title fight, but either way he will be ready to grab the opportunity with both hands and show everyone what a talent he is.

“Bird is easier to guide, there are gaps in the domestic scene at Light Heavyweight. We have our eyes on the Welsh Title after his next fight. Despite his lack of experience in the Pro Ranks, I have seen what’s around and believe he can win titles now and be fast tracked.”
