Kingsley School Judo Club, based in Bideford, is celebrating a triple success after a brilliant weekend of competitions.

Three young athletes from the club have recorded some amazing milestones in their judo journey and, on this evidence, the future is looking very bright at Kingsley.

Firstly, 13 year-old Bailey Walters has just won the Pre-Cadet Welsh National Open Championships in Cardiff. Bailey was in amazing form, winning all off his contests by the maximum score of Ippon in each of his five rounds to reach the final, where he defeated Harry Egleton from Bishop Stortford Judo Club.

This was Bailey's first ever National Open medal and will take him forward to the British National Championships in December, when he will be seeded in the top 10 in Great Britain.

Kyra McDonald, 11, is also in triumphant mood after returning from the Under-12 British National Championships in Guildford with a Silver Medal. It was an amazing achievement for Kyra who won three rounds of contest to set up a final against Evie Mitchell from Middlesbrough.

Kyra couldn't quite keep her momentum going and had to settle for a well-earned Silver. However, Kyra is now nicely prepared to step up an age level into the Pre Cadet age group next year, by virtue of finishing this season ranked Number 2 in Great Britain.

Amie McMurray, 17, can now celebrate achieving her 1st Dan Black Belt after completing her final points and theory exam at Bath University. Amie has an outstanding set of results throughout her career so far, winning medals at every National Championships since she was 13. She is also part of the England Talent Squad. Her Dan Grade achievement is the icing on the cake for yet another fantastic season on the competition tour.

Kingsley School Judo Club is an open community club and welcomes newcomers who wish to start judo in our Dojo venues in Bideford or Bude.
