North Devon Gymnastics Club made a big impression at this year’s London Festival of Gymnastics in Brentwood with a team of 28 competitors performing brilliantly in an inspirational environment.
The festival is usually held annually but had been postponed until this year due to Covid restrictions. It features displays from clubs all over the country and regarded as a major opportunity for young gymnasts to demonstrate their skills and development.
Showcasing one of the greatest musical eras, this year’s routine was performed to a medley of 80’s rock anthems.
The North Devon Club has an all-inclusive policy and the team comprises gymnasts of all ages and abilities, ranging from 6 to 21. The club had quite a few longstanding members drop out after Covid, so this year, the team is very young and new, and bringing on these gymnasts has been quite a challenge for the coaches.
Training sessions are held once a week meaning the team only train for two hours for display.
Coach Michelle Gordon said: “There is a great spirit within the team and coming away on festivals like this is always a highlight. I am so proud of all the gymnasts and all their hard work has paid off.”
The team have been lucky enough to perform nationally and internationally, representing Great Britain at events in Disneyland Paris, Festival Del Sole in Italy, and Blume Gymnastics Festival in Gran Canaria.
After their success in London, the team are hoping to fly the flag for Great Britain once again at the Festival Del Sole in Italy in 2023.
