End of an era at Bideford Boxing Club

Bideford Amateur Boxing Club has appointed Ray Penfold as its new president in succession to Dick Brownson, who has stepped down after a successful 25years at the club.

Brownson has been involved in boxing all his life. He started as an amateur boxer and his skills and courage were recognised as he progressed into the professional trade. He then gained his trainers license, became a promoter and ended up on the professional British Board of Control. During his term at Bideford the club has gone from strength to strength and is recognised all over the country.

Penfold has been a big follower of Bideford ABC for many years and is well respected within the club.

The hard work of another staunch member of the club, Jeff Facey, has also been recognised. He is currently president of Devon and has recently been elected to become president of Western Counties. Bideford boxers have had a successful season and the club continues to grow in stature.

Ricky Dymond received the award for most dedicated junior after having a great season, with seven wins in nine contests.

Lewis Clarke was most improved junior. He recieved two ‘boxer of the night’ awards and turned around two losses in rematches this season.

Jake Hatch was named best achievement junior after winning three of four contest in his first season.

Kier Mckinnon was named most dedicated senior, recognised for his training in the gym.

Ray Penfold was awarded best achievement senior after losing to the eventual winner in the Junior ABAs.
