THREE North Devon powerlifters have qualified for the world championships in Latvia after success in the British championships at the weekend.

Steve Middleton, proprietor of the Floor One fitness studio in Barnstaple, reclaimed his British title with victory in the open category at the British Powerlifting Championships 2011, held at the Queensmead Sports Centre in Middlesex.

There was also success for two other lifters who train at the club.

Lewis Goss (17) won the British title for his category and Samantha Hughes of Combe Martin came second in her event despite carrying a shoulder injury.

This brings all three qualification for the world championships in Riga, Latvia, from November 14-19.
