BRAUNTON'S "country bumpkins" - as they were fondly referred to by manager Mark Harris - showed North Devon sides can compete with the big boys. The Premier Division side faced their second Torquay side in round two of the Graddon Vending Premier Cup. Waldon Athletic may not be playing at the same standard as Braunton's first round opponents Upton Athletic, but Harris' side travelled to Torquay with very few expectations. He and his team were therefore more than surprised when they emerged 0-5 winners. After 15 minutes of intense pressure from Waldon, Graham Green stepped up to give Braunton a dream start scoring a quick-fire hat-trick to give the away side a 3-0 lead. And with the North Devon side playing a fantastic game it was not long before more goals were scored, Dave Bennett and Paul Rockey netting the fourth and fifth.Proud boss Harris said: "It was a great all-round game. We played at a really high standard and my boys did better than I expected." A late goal from Neil Armstrong could not prevent Shamwickshire Rovers losing 2-1 against Kingsteignton Athletic. Shammy had held their South Devon opponents to 0-0 for 80 minutes before tiring legs allowed Kingsteignton to score two goals. Armstrong pulled one back for Shammy but with time running out, the away team could not find an equaliser to force extra time. North Molton's day ended with a 2-1 defeat after they travelled to Plymouth Albion's ground to face Old Suttonians. The team's day started badly when they were forced to walk from the city centre after their coach was not allowed into ground due the Chiefs/Albion rugby union game. And it didn't improve when they got on their field, Old Suttonians taking a 2-0 lead. A late consolation goal from Dean Plummer prevented the whitewash. For the first time in the history of Boca Seniors, the club have reached the third round of the Devon Premier Cup.Fans who travelled to watch Boca play Newton Abbot Spurs were treated to a cracking match, which could have gone either way.Spurs enjoyed most of the possession and took a 1-0 lead on the half-hour mark but Boca levelled the score with the last kick of the half, Mark Barrow scoring from the penalty spot. After some re-organising at half-time Boca came out of the blocks all guns blazing, playing some of their best football of the season. The team were rewarded on the hour mark, Mark Barrow putting Matt Deakin in to give Boca a lead that was soon doubled by Mike Cowell.Scott Sharp put Barnstaple Ammies 1-0 ahead in their match against Bere Alston United before two well-taken goals from the home side saw the Ammies crash out with a 2-1 defeat. Hatherleigh Town also failed to find winning form, losing 1-2 to Tavistock Association. It was the same fate for Bradworthy who lost 6-2 to Kingskerswell and Chelston. The lead was continuously changing in the Sports Fore You Senior Cup match between Elburton Villa and Bideford Reserves. Elburton took the lead after 13 minutes when the Robins gave away a penalty but Hector Christie scored the equaliser within a minute. Elburton regained the lead 10 minutes later when Bideford failed to clear a corner and a misplaced back pass gifted Elburton an open goal to double their lead. For the rest of the first half, Bideford failed to find an opening and only keeper Ali Bright kept them in the game. Moments before half time, Danny Brown found himself in space and reduced the deficit to 3-2.A change in formation for the second half had an immediate effect and Christie headed home Ian Keen's corner to level the score at 3-3. Bideford needed extra-time to find a winner, Brown netting the all-important fourth goal to take the Reserves through to round three.James Gregory finally broke his new-boot-hoodoo, scoring the opening goal in Pilton Academicals' 5-0 win over Woodbury. Quyen Tran (2), Alex Boreham and an own goal completed the score line for Pilton. Shamwickshire Reserves crashed out of the county cup with a disappointing 6-1 defeat against Staverton and Landscove. Lee Seville scored the consolation goal for Shammy.Barnstaple Town Reserves progressed to the last 32 with a 4-1 win over Plymouth based team SWEB. Shapland, Paxton, Chapple and Elston scored the goals for the North Devon side. Despite going behind twice, Bratton Fleming played an excellent match against Ashburton Association finally winning the game 5-2. A hat-trick from Jason Lewis and goals from Joe Toop and Colin Welch saw Bratton through to the third round.Shebbear pulled off a fantastic comeback to beat Kentisbeare 2-3. With only a minute left on the clock and trailing 1-0 Shebbear looked like they were exiting the cup but a Danny Gray penalty levelled the score at 1-1 to force extra time. James Vanstone and Martin Davey netted in extra time but a late goal from Kenitsbeare caused a nervous finish for the Shebbear boys who held firm and managed to hold on for the win. A Rob Crump brace gave Northam Lions a 2-0 lead in their game against Paignton Villa, which ended 1-3. Jason Ingham added the third with a 30-yard shot. Two Elmore penalties prevented Braunton Reserves from progressing into the next round. Matt Hunnibell was the only Braunton scorer in a 2-1 defeat. In the same competition, Witheridge beat Colyton 2-0. In the Baileys Restaurant Intermediate Cup, Kieron Heywood took his goal tally to 18 in Landkey's 1-5 win over Putford Reserves. Heywood got Landkey off to a flying start scoring from the half way line just seconds into the match but Putford levelled soon after. Landkey remained focused and piled the pressure on Putford who eventually allowed Heywood through to score his and Landkey's second. Two more goals from Heywood in the second half ended Putford's hopes off a comeback. Jamie Hutton added the fifth for Landkey to round off an impressive display by the Intermediate One division leaders. Eleven goals thrilled the crowds in the match between Intermediate One side Merton and Intermediate Two team Mortehoe, which ended 5-6 in Mortehoe's favour. Adam Way gave Mortehoe a 1-0 lead but his effort was cancelled out by Nathan Delaune. The seasiders pushed forward and took a two-goal advantage when Howard Dennis and Leo Kybert netted but again Delaune pulled one back for Merton just before half time to make the score 3-2. Delaune continued to cause problems and he scored two more goals in the second half to give Merton a 4-3 lead.Andrew Woodman fired home Mortehoe's equaliser but Simon Cottle added a fifth for Merton to restore their lead. With time running out it was up to Way to pick his way through Merton's defence and score his second and level the score at 5-5. And with extra-time looming, Merton conceded a penalty, which was coolly converted by Mortehoe's Dennis. Torrington Reserves will face Mortehoe in round three after they were 7-2 winners against Hatherleigh Town. Anchor came back from 2-0 down to beat High Bickington 6-5 in their match at Victoria Park. Wayne Jeffery (2), Tim Durbin and Gordon Harrower scored for Anchor to make the score 4-4 as the teams headed for extra time. Two goals from Terry Hollingsworth in extra time gave Anchor the win. A Simon Reid brace gave Park United a 2-1 win over North Molton Reserves. Kemal Tas was the Stags only scorer. A 45-yard screamer from Ben Milburn put Torrington Admirals through to round three after they beat Woolsery 3-2. Phil Heard and Adrian Sealey netted the other goals for the Admirals. A ten-man Equalizer side managed to pull off a 3-2 win over Intermediate Two side Buckland Brewer. On the break Equalizers were the stronger team and winger Matthew Mitchell's left-footed volley was fired past the Buckland keeper to take a 1-0 advantage on the half-hour mark.Straight from the re-start, Vinny Bott raced into the Equalizers' penalty box only to be brought down by a defender who was given a straight red. The resulting penalty was neatly converted by Bott to level the score before half time. The second half was nearing the midpoint when Equalizers edged ahead, Wayne Parkhouse scoring from 20 yards. Another penalty was converted by Bott to pull Buckland level with only 15 minutes left to play of normal time. The game looked like it was heading for extra time but Equalizers capitalised on a poor defensive clearance only for Matthew Mitchell to cut inside and strike the ball from 25 yards into the top corner to finish the game.
