COMMUTERS face heavy gridlock just outside Barnstaple this morning (Tuesday, May 26) following an ongoing incident on the A361.

The North Devon Link Road is currently partially blocked in both directions, triggering significant tailbacks during the morning rush.

According to traffic monitoring service Inrix, the incident occurred between the A39 Eastern Avenue at the Portmore Roundabout in Barnstaple and Blakes Hill Road in Landkey.

Live travel maps show traffic is backing up rapidly on approach to the roundabout, with severe bottlenecks forming in both directions. Motorists are being strongly advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternative routes through Landkey or Swimbridge while the disruption continues.

The North Devon Gazette has contacted Devon and Cornwall Police for an official statement regarding the nature of the incident, the emergency services response, and any potential closures.

More updates as we get them.
