Enjoy the great outdoors with free guided walks in and around Northam Burrows

Northam Burrows rangers are offering free guided walks on selected Mondays and Thursday from February to April around the burrows, Appledore and Westward Ho!

All are welcome to join a series of free guided walks in and around Northam Burrows on selected Mondays from February to April.

The burrows ranger team will be offering two hour Monday hikes and gentler Thursday one hour walks around the Torridge beauty spot as well as Appledore and Westward Ho! in the coming weeks.

On Mondays, join the ‘Good Start to the Week’ walk for a two‑hour guided hike and the chance to learn more about our unique local landscapes.

If you prefer a gentler pace, the ‘Wellbeing Walk’ on Thursdays offers a shorter, relaxed amble with friendly company and plenty of fresh air.

The next walk is on Monday, February 16 from 2pm to 4pm and will meet at the Northam Burrows Visitor Centre for a walk around the coastal habitats and look for signs of the wildlife that lives here.

On Thursday, March 5 from 3pm to 4pm you can find out more about the habitat management work carried out by the rangers, starting from Northam Burrows Visitor Centre.

Monday, March 23 is another two-hour walk from 2pm - meet at Westward Ho! slipway for a tour of the coastal habitat.

On Thursday, April 2 from 3pm to 4pm, join a gentle stroll along the historic promenade, starting from Westward Ho! slipway.

The Monday, April 20 two-hour walk starts at 2pm. Meet at the Appledore gate of Northam Burrows for a loop through the lanes and hills of Appledore.

Councillor Lyndon Piper, lead member for leisure at Torridge District Council, said: “Spending time in nature is a simple yet powerful way to support our wellbeing.

“These guided walks offer an opportunity to get outside, appreciate the beauty of our local area and connect with others in the community.

“Whether you’re hoping to learn something new, enjoy some fresh air, or simply take a well‑earned breather from everyday life, we hope these walks inspire you to explore the natural landscapes right on your doorstep.”
