From now until February 25, the popular hot soup offering for winter is back on the menu at the Barnstaple Library Wellbeing Wednesday Café.

The initiative by One Barnstaple, supported by Barnstaple Town Council and Libraries Unlimited, invites visitors to enjoy a warm bowl of soup, a cup of tea and friendly conversations.

The Wellbeing Wednesday Café runs each week from 10am in the library foyer, providing a welcoming environment where all are welcome to meet, chat and access support from local organisations and charities.

The addition of soup Wednesdays will see hot soup served from 12noon to 1.30pm.

This joint effort between One Barnstaple and Libraries Unlimited is supporting the Warm Welcome Spaces Campaign.

The campaign aims to ensure that everyone has access to community spaces where they can find a place of belonging and reconnection. It’s an opportunity for people to make new friends and connect with their community.

Lisa D'Alberti, senior supervisor at Barnstaple Library, said: “Thanks to a grant from Barnstaple Town Council, we are delighted to offer our weekly soup serving again this winter.

“We know the winter months can be challenging and we hope the library can offer a warm space for people to come together during the colder days.”

The Mayor of Barnstaple, Councillor Janet Coates, said: “I encourage anyone who may need a warm place, a friendly chat, or simply a cuppa, to come along to the Library. The Wellbeing Café and soup service are here to support you through the colder months and help bring people together.”
