One end of Westward Ho! beach was cordoned off on Thursday, May 22 at around 9.30am when what appeared to be a human leg was washed up on the beach. Later the same day more unspecified human remains were discovered at Appledore.
The police statement added: “Both sets of remains were recovered for identification and following further enquiries, both remains were identified as belonging to the same man, and his next of kin have been informed.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious, officers continue to work with the family and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Devon and Cornwall Police told the North Devon Gazette as the death was not suspicious, they would not normally release the name of the person found.
The remains are not connected with the human bones found at Saunton Sands on Saturday, October 11, with a forensic archaeologist currently working to determine the age of those bones.
