Sections of the dunes at Saunton Sands have been cordoned off by police this afternoon (Sunday, October 12).

Police cars and officers were spotted at the popular surfing beach during the early afternoon and parts of the top of the beach and dunes near the beach sauna have been partitioned off with tape and cones.

Officers have been seen digging in the sand and while others stood guard to keep the public away from the closed off areas.

A post on social media from a mother claimed her son had been digging in the sand and found ‘very old’ human bones, but this cannot be verified at this time.
