Man left with serious head injuries after North Devon pub assault

Police were called to South Molton pub on Saturday night after altercation left one man in hospital with serious injuries

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident that left one man with serious head injuries.

Police are appealing for witnesses or footage after a man was assaulted at a South Molton public house, leaving him with a serious head injury.

Officers were called after a reported assault at The Coaching Inn in Queen Street just after 9pm yesterday (Saturday, October 11).

A man had been punched in the face by another man causing him to fall and sustain a serious head injury.

The victim, a local man in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

A man in his 20s from South Molton was arrested on suspicion of wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and he remains in custody.

Detective Inspector Michelle Westlake said: “Enquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone who was in the premises and witnessed the incident to come forward to assist with our investigation.

“We would be keen to hear from anyone who may have captured the incident on their mobile phone or anyone else with information about what took place.

“I would like to reassure the local community that this was an isolated incident and the public will see an increased police presence in the area as enquiries continue.”
