Wind gust above 50mph are set to batter North Devon along with heavy rain as Storm Amy moves in throughout today (Friday) and into Saturday.

The Met Office has issued amber alerts for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland but South West England will only catch the backwash of Amy’s fury, however a yellow warning for wind has been issued from midnight tonight until 7pm Saturday.

The region will see heavy rain throughout Friday and into Saturday, plus winds are expected to strengthen from this afternoon with gusts over 50mph, with these windy conditions set to continue all day on Saturday.

No warnings have been issued for river or coastal flooding, but visitors to the coast are advised to take care during the blustery conditions.

The Met Office said: “Whilst the most significant impacts associated with Storm Amy will be in the north of the UK, parts of South West England will still see a band of heavy rain sweep eastwards across the region during Friday, turning heaviest overnight into Saturday.

“Wind speeds will also increase across the southwest during Friday evening and overnight and it will remain windy throughout Saturday, with gales possible at exposed coasts and over high ground, eg Exmoor, Dartmoor, Bodmin Moor etc.

“Whilst no warnings have been issued for this area, we would still advise to take care when travelling, plan journeys ahead of time and keeping up to date with the latest forecast via our app, website and social media channels.”
