Families enjoy summer fun at Little Bridge House children’s hospice

Families in North Devon supported by Children’s Hospice South West enjoy Wild West, Oceanfest, Devon Day and carnival-themed activities at Little Bridge House this summer

Families enjoy summer fun at Little Bridge House children’s hospice

This summer, Little Bridge House children’s hospice was full of colour, creativity, and laughter as families supported by Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) came together to enjoy themed activity days for those visiting or staying at the hospice.

Each event was thoughtfully designed by the Care Team to bring imaginative play and connection to babies, children, and young people, and their families, all in keeping with CHSW’s mission: to make the most of short and precious lives.

The fun began with a Wild West adventure, where children panned for gold, decorated cowboy boots and hats, and created “Most Wanted” posters.

The hospice grounds were dotted with cacti and handprint horses, and the challenge of lassoing a cardboard box cow brought plenty of giggles.

A themed lunch added to the frontier spirit, making it a day to remember.

Next came Oceanfest, a day inspired by the sea, which saw families enjoying crafting shell flowers and painting rocks.

Further activities focused on recycling from the ocean, and children made tugboats and fishing nets, all wrapped up with a themed tea that added to the maritime magic.

Devon Day, a celebration of all things local, saw everyone have a go at making ice cream, indulging in cream teas and fudge, and visiting a nearby farm.

Traditional games like welly wanging and skittles kept the energy high, while pottery and apple-themed crafts added a creative twist.

The circus came to Little Bridge House next, with a Carnival Day full of excitement.

Children crafted colourful headdresses, tried plate spinning, and played classic childhood games like hook-a-duck.

Entertainers brought joy and laughter, while chocolate-dipped apple slices and a chocolate fountain added a sweet touch.

The summer culminated in the vibrant Little Bridge House Fest.

Families supported by the hospice came together for a full day of joy, creativity, and connection.

From face painting and tie-dye pillowcases to crafting beautiful luminary lanterns, the fun never stopped!

Everyone embraced the festival spirit in colourful outfits, spreading smiles all around.

As the sun began to set, the incredible Samba Baia band, a community samba band run by Carnival Arts North Devon, brought the rhythm and energy, filling the evening with music, dancing, and unforgettable memories.

A representative from the Little Bridge House Care Team said: “Each themed day organised by my colleagues on the Care Team here was more than just about fun.

They were a chance for families to connect, relax, and create joyful moments together, and to see this happening week on week was wonderful.

Thank you to everyone who made these themed days so incredibly special.”
