Chulmleigh College students who saw two years of learning disrupted by Covid have done themselves and the school proud by posting a top notch set of GCSE results.

There were plenty of smiles as the college reported ‘outstanding results across the board’ after Year 11 pupils turned out to collect their results today (Thursday).

The school saw 82% of children in Year 11 achieve at least a grade 4 in both English and maths GCSEs, while 61% gained at least a grade 5.

The Attainment 8 figure for Chulmleigh College – which measures how well students do across eight GCSEs - is 54.09.

Headteacher Neil Payne said: “All of us at the college are delighted by how well this cohort has done and we are incredibly proud of each and every pupil.

“We are used to achieving fantastic results at this school – but when you think of how Covid affected this cohort during their Year 6 and Year 7 – it makes these results very special.

“I would like to express my thanks and admiration to the parents of these pupils, their teachers and our staff and of course the pupils themselves for everything they have achieved. This year group has been a wonderful group of children to work with, we will miss them but wish them every success for their future studies, training and careers.”

High achievers today included Francesca Trimming, who gained 11 GCSEs with eight of those grades at the highest grade 9.

She said: “I feel really proud of myself for these results. I have worked hard throughout these last few years and it is such a relief for it all to have paid off in the end.

“Thank you so much to all the teachers over the years for their help and guidance: I couldn’t have done it without them!”
