Sixth formers at West Buckland School have been celebrating a successful end to their school careers with 45% gaining top A* or A grades on A Level results day.
The school said nearly three quarters of all grades came in at A* to B and the pass rate was practically 100%, with results at all levels showing improvement over a three year period.
Many students are now heading to their first-choice universities to study demanding courses.

Both Georgia and Luke obtained an outstanding four A* grades each and will now study chemistry at Durham and aerospace engineering at Bristol respectively. Fatima has a place on the highly competitive economics course at London School of Economics and Political Science.
Sam and Milly are two of the highest achieving A Level artists in the country, with Sam heading off to the prestigious Camberwell College of Arts to study Fine Art: Painting.
Amy and Chidera will study medicine, while other students will study a range of subjects from economics and psychology to geography and anthropology at a wide range of universities.
The school said it was particularly proud of the performances of the first cohort of students who completed the IB Career Related Programme with flying colours.

Interim head Helen Lowe said: “I’m incredibly proud of the students’ achievements. It is a privilege for me to now be a part of West Buckland School and to celebrate Year 13’s results.
“I wish all those students every success as they move on to the next stage of their lives. I have seen already how West Buckland prepares students for both academic success and for life beyond school. A huge thank you to the students and staff for their hard work and dedication.”
Matt Brimson, outgoing head of sixth form after eight years, added: “I have looked on with pride and admiration as this outstanding cohort has grown into fine young people.
“Walking with them on their bumpy, but fulfilling journey, they have demonstrated a genuine passion for their subjects and, really importantly, shown genuine care for each other. We wish them every success as they embark on their exciting futures.”
West Buckland saw 91% of grades in its vocational subjects, sport and applied science at Distinction*/Distinction level (equivalent to A* and A), while 90% of students in geography, mathematics and art A levels achieved A* to B grades. In further maths, 75% of students attained an A* and with a quarter achieving the same grade in geography, maths, art, religious studies and English literature.

The next whole school Open Day is on Saturday, September 20 at 9.30am and the next Sixth Form Open Evening is on Wednesday, October 15 at 5,30pm.
