Petroc College has announced ‘another year of exceptional results’ across the board for its higher education subjects on A Level results day.

The college said A Levels had an overall pass rate of 97%, with a significant increase in the number of top A* grades and the top vocational grade equivalents.

The college also saw a 99% overall pass rate for T Levels and a 93% rate for its vocational subjects, with four out of five students being able to continue on to their first choice destinations of university or further education and training.

Assistant principal Jo Byrne said: “Every year our learners’ success exceeds expectations. I’m incredibly proud of the students and Petroc teaching teams today.

“We have witnessed excellent results in A Levels, T Levels, Vocational subjects and Access to Higher Education, with many learners achieving A’s and Distinctions across the board.

“To see the expertise and dedication of our teaching teams have such a positive impact is extremely rewarding. We have maintained our high pass rates and I’m so happy to see the majority of our learners able to progress to their first choice destinations.”

Stand out students this year included Ahmad Aslam, who achieved three A* grades in biology, chemistry and maths. Ahmad is now going on to Bristol University to study medicine.

He said: “When I first came to Petroc it was more casual than I expected, the teachers and the atmosphere made me feel really comfortable and I could ask questions freely and discuss things to help improve mine and others understanding during class.”

Annalise Roome achieved three A* grades in chemistry, physics and maths and will now study a degree in chemistry at Bath Spa University.

She attributed her success to “the practical, hands-on approach to learning” at Petroc, adding: “I was part of the netball academy and we have been unbeaten for the past two years. I loved travelling away with the team for the away matches, we have all become great friends because of it”.

T Level Education and childcare student Eleanor Gabell achieved a Distinction* grade and is now progressing to Plymouth University to study psychology. She said: “The teachers have been phenomenal and the trips throughout the year have been good as well, I especially enjoyed our trip to Exmoor Zoo!”

Deputy principal Dr Jason Jones, added: “At Petroc we strive for excellence and this academic year we have focused our energies on driving continual improvement in the quality of teaching and learning, and providing a consistently high-quality learning experience for all of our students.

“This is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our students and the dedication and professionalism of our staff.

“These results are a positive reflection of the journey we are on at Petroc, and I am excited about the plans we have in place for the coming academic year, to keep building on this excellent foundation.”

Sharing the same sentiments, Sarah Freeman, Head of A Levels said:

“I am delighted to congratulate our learners on their exceptional A Level results this year, especially subjects such as English literature, further maths, law and many more who have achieved 100% pass rates.

“We are incredibly proud of the resilience, determination, and commitment they have shown throughout their studies, and these achievements reflect both their hard work and our shared aspiration for every learner to achieve their very best.

“It is inspiring to see so many progressing to top universities, higher-level apprenticeships, and exciting career opportunities. We remain ambitious for all of our learners and look forward to hearing about their continued success and the positive impact they will make in their chosen fields.”

“We are incredibly proud of our learners and their results. These achievements are a testament to their determination, resilience, and talent, as well as the commitment of our outstanding teaching and support staff. We wish all our leavers the very best, with the majority achieving their first choice university destination. Congratulations to all involved!”
