Black Sabbath icon Ozzy Osbourne’s legacy lives on at The Mole Resort in North Devon, which has named an alpaca after him

Guests at The Mole Resort have been taking part in a competition name one of the newest (and fluffiest) farmyard residents– a striking black alpaca with serious star quality.

There were plenty of creative entries but the winning name was Ozzy – a nod to the legendary, late rock icon Ozzy Osbourne, chosen by Christine, who won a Family Farmyard ticket or Animal Walk experience for four people.

The name struck the perfect chord and it seems the newly-anointed Ozzy was born to wear it, with a hint of grown-up quirk and plenty of countryside charm.

Since the announcement, Ozzy the alpaca has become a bit of a local celebrity, turning heads and stealing hearts across the resort.

With his jet-black fleece and undeniable swagger, he’s already made himself at home among the herd – and he's not shy about striking a pose for admiring fans.

“We wanted to do something fun that would get our guests involved in the newest addition to the Mole family,” said a Tamsyn Parsons, director of sales and marketing at The Mole Resort.

“The response was incredible and the winning name couldn’t be more perfect. Ozzy is already living up to his rock star reputation!

We’re so grateful to Farmer Chris Reid from the Come Bye Duck and Herding Company, provides such fantastic farmyard and animal walking experiences at the resort.”

Guests can now meet Ozzy in person during their stay at the farmyard experience – just one of more than 40 activities on offer at the resort, which provides lodge or hotel accommodation and day time activities for locals and visitors alike.

These include everything from axe-throwing and archery to pottery painting. Guests can also enjoy scenic walking trails, tennis, swimming in the outdoor and indoor pools and fitness classes.
